    After starting their title defending campaign on a rather slow pace last weekend after a shocking 2-1 away defeat to east conference rivals MASA, Kayole Asubuhi coach Isaiah ‘Song’ Omondi says they put behind their uninspiring start of their 2017 Sportpesa Super 8 Premier League season and are focused on their next fixture.

    Focus Onuka handed Sportpesa Super 8 Premier League defending champs Kayole Asubuhi a perfect gift sealing their Easter festivities in bubbly moods after netting the all-important goal of the match against a resilient NYSA in match day 7 played on Monday 17 April at Makongeni grounds.

    The combative center back neatly buried home a 60th minute penalty that handed the East conference leaders three valuable points that hauls their tally to 15 points, just four adrift early front runners and league leaders Kawangware United.

    NYSA who were angling for their first win in four consecutive attempts will however have to search deeper as the loss, their second this season, sees them sit at 5th with 11 points. Their Coach Fredrick Otieno admitted they went down fair and square but blamed inexperience as their main undoing.

    “This is the second time we have lost in the league, Kawangware and Asubuhi are teams which have played in this competition for some time so experience was in their favor but it was a challenging game, we had our chances but I guess lack was not on our side.” Otieno pointed out after the match.

    "Of course I am dissapointed especially with the penalty, I believe it was too soft but we have to accept the referee's decision and move on and focus on the coming matches." he added.


    NYSA walk off the pitch after 1-0 away to Kayole Asubuhi in the seventh round SPS8 PL tie played at Makongeni grounds.

    Kayole who defied all odds to win last season’s trophy started this year’s campaign on a sour note after defeats in their week 1 and week 3 matches but since then they seem to have steadied their vessel having managed five wins thus far as they seek to tuck the accolade twice in a row as they presently lead the East conference standings.

    Wasted chances

    NYSA started the match on a wonderful note pilling keeping Kayole’s defense under duress in the first ten minutes with the first chance falling on Charles Maina who hit the woodwork before his goal bound rebound attempt was cleared off the line by Asubuhi defender Dennis Nyabera.

    Custodian Asubuhi’s pre-season signing Charles Onyango then pulled off an acrobatic save to parry away a well taken free kick by Sam Lemashon in the 18th minute and on the other end Tobius Olum spurned what could have been the opener after directing his shot just above the bar.

    After a scoreless first period, both sides came in the final half rejuvenated and more aggressive but it was the hosts who broke the deadlock via penalty on the hour mark after NYAS defender handed the ball within the box prompting center referee John Otieno to point straight to the six yard spot with Onuka stepping up and gave a good account of himself by sending NYSA keeper the wrong direction, placing the ball on the right bottom of the net for a 1-0 second half lead.

    Despite searching deeply for the equalizer, the visiting West conference side could not quite find the mark dealing them their second defeat of a season they kick-started remarkably.
